How to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile for Inbound Opportunities

The Headline Is Everything

Most people write their job title and company in their LinkedIn headline. The people getting inbound messages write what they do and who they help. "Senior Product Manager | Building B2B tools that reduce customer churn" is searchable, specific, and signals a mindset. Your job title alone is not.

Write an About Section That Talks to Recruiters

The About section should answer three questions: What kind of work do you do best? What have you achieved that proves it? And what are you looking for next? Keep it under 300 words. Use short paragraphs. End with a call to action, "Open to Senior PM roles at climate or health tech companies. Feel free to reach out."

Signal Open to Work the Right Way

Enable "Open to Work" for recruiters only (not publicly) if you're employed. Set specific job titles, locations, and work types you're interested in, the more specific, the more relevant the inbound. A vague "Open to Work" setting produces vague results.
